Freedom in a Cup of Turmeric Ginger Lemon Tea – Cleansing Recipe, Musings & Inspiration

Tea Musings: Turmeric Ginger Lemon Tea Recipe + Inspiration/Quotes/Reflection on Freedom

It was one of those days where I woke up feeling bleh, but sometimes it feels okay to feel that way. A feeling was there, my body was a little tired, but as I did not attach any interpretation to these subtleties, I had no fight with them. Kevin and I have our morning ritual, where we enjoy a cup of tea together and muse about anything before we get on with our other daily activities. That morning, I brewed us some lemon tea with turmeric and ginger — an infusion that we enjoy year round for its cleansing, detoxifying properties and exceptional health benefits.
The potency of this brew could be felt instantly as it brightened up my spirit and warmed my stomach. As we sipped on our tea, our conversation deepened into a more profound recollection of what freedom is. We realised that, at some point, we found happiness and freedom in this cup of lemon tea while the pattering sound of the rain outside soothed our hearts.

Kevin is writing a book on the nature of identity and the discovery of our innate nature; you may want to follow his page on Facebook. His writing is beautiful and in this video I am narrating one of his contemplation on ‘freedom’.

Turmeric Ginger Lemon Tea

Ingredients (1 cup)
Juice of half a lemon
1-inch ginger root (more or less to taste), peeled and thinly sliced
1-inch fresh turmeric root (if you are not used to turmeric, start with a smaller piece first and see how you like it), peeled and thinly sliced
1 black tea bag (Earl Grey is good too)
Maple syrup or other sweetener to taste
Hot water for brewing

Squeeze the lemon into the cup and add in the ginger and turmeric slices. You may want to lightly crush them if you like to extract more juice.
Pour in the hot water to fill the cup.
Dunk in the tea bag but do not drop it into the cup (unless you are using a very weak tea). Swirl it around a few time until the tea picks up a golden amber colour. Lightly squeeze the tea bag, then remove. (If there is still enough tea concentration in there, you can keep it for a second cup).
Sweeten to taste.
Enjoy hot, warm or even cooled and chilled.
