Low-fat Chocolate Sauce Recipe (Vegan)
A gooey fat-free chocolate sauce recipe that can be made sugar-free too. Pour on fresh fruits, top with chia or basil seeds to satisfy a little craving without the guilt with this quick chocolate dessert. This chocolate sauce can even be used as a healthy cake frosting.

Servings: 2 - 3
For the chocolate sauce:
- 300 ml homemade oat milk see notes
- 1 - 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon instant coffee
- Pinch cinnamon
- 2 - 3 tablespoons maple syrup or to taste
For the dessert:
- Chopped fruits of choice I used bananas
- 1 tablespoon basil seeds
- ½ cup water
- Toasted coconut flakes or nuts/seeds for toppings
Make the sauce:
Heat the oat milk in a saucepan on low-medium heat.
Add the cocoa powder, coffee, cinnamon and maple syrup.
Stir and mix well.
Increase the heat to medium and keep stirring.
The mixture will thicken gradually. Turn off heat when it reaches the consistency that you like.
A thinner consistency is great for ice-cream but thick creamy texture is perfect for fruits.
Make the dessert:
Place the basil seeds in half cup of water and allow to soak until swollen.
To serve the dessert, place some fruits in a bowl, top with the soaked basil seeds.
Next pour in the warm chocolate sauce and top with the coconut flakes or nuts.
Et voilà! Eat while still warm or chilled if you prefer.
It's essential to use homemade oat milk because when heated, it thickens all by itself due to the nature of the oatmeal. Commercial oat milk don't thicken when heated.

You may use other plant-based milk. In this case, you will have to add 1 - 2 tablespoons of cornstarch or potato starch to the milk depending on how thick you would like the sauce to be.
