This cast iron pan handle cover gives you a nice cozy grip. It can be used instead of a pot holder — it fits snugly around the handle and allow you to hold your skillet safely. You will fall in love with it.
You’ll probably end up making several and give some away as gifts. 🙂
A while ago, I was making these cozy crochet cast iron pan handle covers and offering them for sale in my Etsy shop. I received a few requests for the pattern but had not got around to writing it down properly until now.
CozyGrip Cast Iron Pan Handle Cover Crochet Pattern
The pattern is now available on Etsy or Ravelry. So, I hope you’ll enjoy making this hot pan handle cover for yourself or as a gift.
This hot handle cover is intended for use on stove top only, and may be left on while cooking. But it’s not suitable to be placed in the oven while baking. You can however easily slip it on the handle before removing the skillet from the oven.
Construction
The construction is doubled and extra thick to provide maximum protection against heat. It stretches and the pattern can be adapted to fit on any types of cast iron skillet/pan handles. Each has a little loop at the end and can be placed on a hook for easy reach.
Important: Use 100% cotton yarn only as synthetic yarn will melt.
Adjusting the length
You can adapt the length based on your pan’s handle.
The Pattern
This pattern uses US terminology with metric sizes.
> Materials
- H (5mm) crochet hook
- About 50 yards (45 metres) weight #4 100% cotton yarn (this is more than you’ll actually need, I can get 2 covers in a 1.5 oz / 42.5 g ball of Bernat Handicrafter).
Any other 100% cotton yarn of the same weight is suitable. - Stitch markers, I use safety pins or bobby pins. You can also use a piece of yarn in a different color
- Tapestry needle and scissors
