With the avalanche of cherries in the stores this summer, I have pretty much been buying them at every trip to the grocery store. Fresh and just popped in the mouth, these juicy sweet drupes are seriously addictive. That said, an insatiate thirst for yet another youth elixir, beckoned my creative juices for another smoothie concoction.
Melded with kale and ginger, cherries provide an energizing detoxifying power-packed experience. I say experience because a good smoothie is not merely a drink, it is the kind of drink that tells a story in every sip, tickles your belly and makes you want to slurp more and more even though you are full. This is the kind of smoothie I love to enjoy on weekend mornings while I eagerly prepare brunch.
Power-Packed Cherry Smoothie with Kale
Green Smoothie Recipe
I used fresh cherries in this recipe but you can also use frozen. Like all smoothies, this cherry kale smoothie is easy to prepare.
Just add some curly kale, a handful of pitted cherries, a small piece of ginger, a medjool date as natural sweetener, lemon juice, pumpkin seeds and water to thin out to the desired consistency. Blend at high speed until smooth and serve in a tall glass.

Ingredients
- 5 stems curly kale, remove middle stem, cut leaves into small pieces
- 10 - 12 fresh sweet cherries, pitted
- 1/2 inch cube fresh ginger
