For our first Summer in Montreal last year, the two hungry vegans that we are, Kevin and I, strolled around the streets of Montreal to check out some nice vegan eat outs. We were pleased by our previous visits to Chuchai and Aux Vivres. Although, it is always with slight trepidation that we enter an eatery where we have never been before. Both Kevin and I look for bold or intricate flavours in our food without necessarily being spicy or hot although, the pungent factor is most welcomed!
Around the Mont Royal area, La Panthère Verte (or The Green Panther) presents an assortment of vegan and organic “good food for urban jungle”, as goes their slogan. We didn’t get a chance to catch some food from their food truck which is obviously mobile but also seasonal. So, we visited their eatery, at the Mont-Royal Avenue East location, which has a quite laid back ambience with a convivially fresh decor and friendly staff. The menu is definitely attractive and I would say the prices are good for a place that serves only organic. Their falafels are reputed for being the best in town, so I could not help but to try them. I must say, they are some pretty awesome falafels with just the right amount of spice and herbs.
Kevin went for the VégéBurger and I picked the VégéPanthère (probably more for the name than what was in there), both in a full pita bread. We had a bite in each other’s pita and we liked both. Although Kevin still thought he needed some hot sauce but for my part, the taste was pleasant and just right for a light lunch. We also had some tempeh sticks on the side.
Apart from the tasty organic nibbles, The Green Panther strives to source its ingredients locally. Also, they not only recycle but they take it one step further by offering a discount if you bring your own container. That’s something to remember if you want to save a little money; as goes the saying, every little helps. So, will I call again to this little jungle? Yes, yes of course. I am looking forward to paying another visit this summer whenever I am in the area.

I love falafels and the ones in your photo look excellent — all brown and crispy on the outside and just the right shade of green inside. It's been an awfully long time since I've been to Montreal — and I miss it.

I'm a bit apprehensive about eating at new places too. But nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? 🙂 The falafels look awesome! And how cool to have a bring your own container discount. I wish more places did that.
